Future for Children: A European initiative using sport to promote health and well-being among young people living in underprivileged districts.

The 1st Transnational Meeting for the European project Future for Children/ Future + was successfully held in Clermont- Ferrand, France on the 17th of March 2018. The project is co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus + Programme.
The project aims at promoting, developing and sharing an evidence-based coach education programmme that can help coaches foster quality motivation and make sport not only engaging, empowering, and enjoyable but also a tool of added value for social inclusion. Its goal is to define a common methodology to implement sports-based inclusion intervention to help children uncover their athletic talent, explore personal development, and find academic focus through a tight-knit community of mentors, peers and athletes.
The partnership comprises the following organizations: Club Lluita La Mina (Spain), Club Gimnastica La Mina (Spain), ASM de Clermont – Ferrand (France), European Institute for Local Development (Greece) and CEIPES (Italy).
In the first stage of the project implementation, will be conducted an Analysis of the current coach programme in each participating country and the extent to which it is addressing issues of social inclusion. The purpose of this study is how coaches deal with children living in underprivileged districts during the training sessions.
Following, an online survey conducted in 8 sports clubs each of the participating countries on how the coach has a role in the sports-based social inclusion intervention.
Concluding, an Analysis of the results of the studies carried out in the previous stages, with the aim to elucidate how the role of the coach and its intervention promotes and inhibits social inclusion. Mapping of good practices and suggestions for a coach education programme for helping coaches to deal with the target group in order to foster quality motivation and make sport an effective tool for social inclusion.
